United States
ESTA
Visa-Waiver Program travelers must obtain an approved ESTA before boarding a flight to the US.
- Who needs it
- Citizens of VWP countries (incl. most EU, UK, IL, JP) flying or sailing to the US. US citizens, green-card holders and standard US-visa holders do NOT need it
- Validity
- 2 years, or until passport expires โ whichever comes first
- Stay per visit
- Up to 90 days, tourism or business
- Processing time
- Usually minutes; allow up to 72 hours
- New passport
- A new ESTA is required โ it is tied to the passport number
- Cost
- USD 21 (official site only)
Canada
eTA
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an Electronic Travel Authorization to fly to or transit through Canada.
- Who needs it
- Visa-exempt foreign nationals arriving by air. Canadian and US citizens, and Canadian permanent residents, do NOT need it
- Validity
- 5 years, or until passport expires
- Stay per visit
- Up to 6 months per entry (officer's discretion)
- Processing time
- Most approved within minutes; some take several days
- New passport
- A new eTA must be obtained โ it's linked to the passport
- Cost
- CAD 7 (official site only)
Israel ยท new
ETA-IL
Visitors from visa-exempt countries now need an ETA-IL to enter Israel for stays up to 90 days. Israeli citizens are exempt.
- Who needs it
- Visa-exempt foreign visitors. Israeli citizens and holders of an Israeli residence permit are exempt
- Validity
- 2 years, or until passport expires โ multiple entries
- Stay per visit
- Up to 90 days
- Processing time
- Usually within 72 hours; apply at least a few days before travel
- New passport
- A new ETA-IL is required for the new passport
- Cost

United Kingdom ยท new
ETA-UK
All travellers to the UK โ except British and Irish citizens โ need either an ETA or an eVisa before travelling.
- Who needs it
- Visitors who do not need a visa for short stays. British & Irish citizens, and anyone with UK immigration status (eVisa, settled status, work/study visa), do NOT need it
- Validity
- 2 years, or until passport expires โ multiple entries
- Stay per visit
- Up to 6 months tourism / business / short study
- Processing time
- Usually within 3 working days; can be faster
- New passport
- A new ETA-UK must be applied for
- Cost
- GBP 16
